Cameras vs Smart phones

Cameras vs Smart phones
As an amateur photographer and a member of a professional photography family, I find this title a little ridiculous, because cameras and smart phones have no base for comparison but for the sake of the general public, let’s keep this title.
So, back to Cameras and smart phones. A month or so ago I, my photography family and colleagues took a train ride to Kaduna. As we all know, the high-speed train just became active in some parts of Nigeria and as a millennial and as someone who has never been to jand I have never been on a train.
With excitement and the best photography gears there is in Abuja, we headed to the station, got our tickets and were waiting to board. As a photography family, we started our photo shoot, trying to capture the interesting items, people and moments. Then as always in this part of the world, the security agents approached us, they started with the security threat boo-ha-ha and then privacy.
We explained to them that we were just freelance photographers on a train trip, but they kept complaining and saying it was a security threat. Now fellow Nigerians, let’s be reasonable, how can a terrorist or a person with criminal intentions carry a DSLR Camera and a Zoom lens around. Haba!! With smart phones these days, who needs a 2kg device to breach security.
Who has seen the movie 13 hours; Me! Me!! Me!!! Remember the part after a bloody gun battle between the mercenaries and the rebels, then a teen showed up with a phone and was acting like he was trying to make a call, little did they know he was taking their coordinates. the mercenaries thought little of the act until they were hit the greatest.
And unto privacy, pls Nigerians, if you are in a public place, Abeg, you no get privacy, and if you don’t want pictures of you taken, kindly gesture a NO and we will let you be.
Anyways, we had a nice trip, took a couple of beautiful shoots but were really stressed out because we had to explain ourselves to security personnel and police officers at various stop points and stations.

If you have not taken the train ride, here are some of the beautiful scenery. Enjoy.

Picture this Nigeria where a photographer can bring out his camera and take pictures without people getting worried that their picture is being taken.
why are we so on the edge when we think our picture is being taken? A million dollar question.
This shoot was done on the street of Abuja. It was fun working with Jen. Her Instagram handle is @jen_stanners.
